Guam has a tropical marine/maritime climate with a hot and usually extremely
humid weather that experiences hardly any seasonal temperature variation.
30 degree Celsius or 86 degree F is the average summer temperature whereas
24 degree Celsius or 76 degree F is the average low temperature. Guam experiences
an average annual rainfall of 2180 mm or 96 inches.
The months running from July to November are generally recognized as the
monsoon months with heavy rains lashing the island and pelting it with
incessant downpour. You can enjoy a rain relief in the months from December
to June that boast of a long dry spell.
The best time to visit Guam is in the months of January and February when
the weather is coolest , night temperatures hovering in the early twenties
degrees C. Humidity levels also drop sharply during this period.
October and November are traditionally known as the typhoon season but
the risk of getting lashed by fearful typhoons remains round the clock,
all throughout the year.
Within 330 km or 210 miles of Guam, an average of 1 typhoon and 3 tropical
storms graze past the island inundating it in rains.
The massive destruction and large scale devastation caused by Super Typhoon
Pongsona on 8th December , 2002 that whipped up huge tall columns of tidal
surge with its 125 miles/hour gales is still fresh in the memories of the
inhabitants of the island. It was the fiercest, most intense typhoon to
have slammed Guam in recent history.
Another super typhoon that had lashed the island in 1976 and lead to the
immediate replacement of wooden houses with concrete structures was super
typhoon Pamela.
But otherwise, Guam has an uninterrupted tranquil peaceful climate, ideal
for beach vacations.
